Department of Contemporary History

Established in 1964 as the Socialist Construction Department, it was renamed Department of Contemporary History after 1989.

The Department is the only one in Varna Regional Museum of History’s structure that does not have its own building and a permanent exhibition. It has a very rich fund of nearly 30,000 items, presented in thematic temporary exhibitions, educational programs, etc. Among them are large collections of physical materials on various topics, numerous photographs and documents, as well as audio and video recordings, presenting the political, economic and cultural life of Varna and Varna Region in the period from the 1940s to present day.
