Golden Dialogue: The Golden Link Between Cultures

Contemporary art in the Archaeological Museum – Varna.

The Varna Archaeological Museum presents an art installation by Yana Dams that creates references between the past and the present. In it, modern art meets the oldest gold treasure in the world. The gilded sculptures reflect the symbolic meaning of gold in different cultures and surprisingly reveal the repetition and reinvention of forms.

The artist explores the universal language of form in which gold objects from different eras and cultures have remarkable similarities. These objects are often symbols of power, beauty and the divine, similar to the gold items from the Varna Chalcolithic Necropolis. By gilding selected polystyrene packages, the artist makes the similarities visible. The presentation of the golden sculptures of Yana Dams in direct connection with the golden treasure from Varna illustrates the aesthetic and cultural connections. This contributes to a deeper understanding of the formal preferences of past millennia and the symbolic nature of the precious material.

The exhibition will be visiting the museum from May 23 to December 27, 2024.

Come to the opening of the exhibition on May 23 /Thursday/ at 16:00 in the “Prehistory” exhibition of the Archaeological Museum.
